Got the chance of buying a 92 range rover classic v8. Runs out of mot soon and needs a lot of welding to front inner wings, rest is fine chassi and rear x member. Sills are a touch and go but tester said they will pass. Lad wants 300 quid for it, I'm only gunna be using it for going out lamping wi dogs, so can't be using my td5 disco as it will just ruin it. Its only gunna cost me 20 quid for steel and ill weld it myself at work. Its got off road tyres on it and its not what I'd call a shed just wants some work. Shall I have a punt?

if the £300 aint gonna affect the thickness of yer wallet and it is only welding that it wants then what have you got to lose if you mot the bugger at that price and dont like it youll easily double yer money selling it on

Been looking for a lamping vehicle for a few weeks now. Looking at subaru foresters but its the insurance that will **** me but the rangey I can get on a classic vehicle policy with footman james 270 quid for the year as I'm only 25. Havnt got a lot of spare money so this would be ideal if it just fails on welding and not needing any parts. Lad who's selling it off baught it with intending to make a few quid, dosnt know anything about cars or landys, showed him all rot and his arse fell out and said he just wants his money back, so I'm thinking take front wings off and try and rebuild inner wings and repair n/s rear inner wings around seat belt anchor point. Sills have been protected in past and in good condition. If it lasts me a year I will be happy

Latest price for mixed scrap is £220 quid a tonne in South Wales.

The V8 has to be worth summat to someone, sounds like a decent gamble to me.

Gutted, the lad **** his self when I showed him the rot and in the time of me thinking about it he scrapped it and got his 300 quid back

Had a bit of good luck today can't say the same for my assistant manager tho lol. Came to work this morning to find his disco on ramp coz there was a banging noise and a grinding noise, grinding turned out to be front pads had worn out and knocking was the front swivvel bearings were shot, I've never seen one as bad, a good 3 or 4 inch of play in the wheel. Anyway he's had enough of it and he's not into landrovers and just wanted rid of it. Its a 1998 300 tdi auto in black. Wants a good clean inside and out. Boot floor, sill, chassi, inner wings are mint no rust anywhere. Couldn't believe how rot free it is and he said to me do ya wanna buy it? How much I replied? Erm giz 350 quid for it and its urs!! Bit his fekkin hand off. Wants few bits doing like passenger front lock spring. Requires no welding at all. 6 months mot and 4 months tax. Gunna cost me 40 quid to put swivvel right. When its done its gotta be worth 1500 quid surely?

just check that 3.9 isnt over pressurizing the cooling system like they do. early warning good test is see if the heater blows properly hot all the time which it should if it doesnt its days are numbered

The disco I've baught has a few niggles, the passenger door won't open from the outside unless I put my arm round through passenger side and lift nob up, is this the common spring problem or something else?

Cheers mate, wasn't sure if it was that causing it. Had problem before on a disco1 having to flick handle several times for it to open. Thanks

my drivers door developed that fault about 6 months ago, i have to keep pulling the outside handle. now i actually just pull the handle and then push the door in with my left hand which releases the lock.

sometimes it opens on the second or third pull if my left hand is busy!

anyway, its not the spring cos i recently checked that when it started doing it, im guessing its just a worn lock or something but i cba.

yours is defo spring mate :)
