As my D1 300tdi has become too much of a 'project' iv been looking around for something to replace it. And I've decided I want something different as iv had a few Disco's. I looked at 90's (and a bank loan) but lack of forward facing rear seats puts me off. So I've decided. What I need is a RRC! Only thing is there doesn't seem to be many around. Is it too big an ask to want a RRC tdi with T&T for under £1500?
I don't mind having to do SOME work on it but I'd want it as a daily driver. ( as driving the family saloon everyday just isn't right.)

Am I dreaming that il eventually find one in my price range or should I just buy ANOTHER discovery?

You will struggle to get a Late Classic with the 300TDi for that cash unless you are willing to spend out on getting rid of the rust...

Rust on Classics is a killer and will render most un MoT-able quite readily...

The P38 is much less rust prone, but for £1500 it is gamble on getting a good one....

Think I'd be too scared of scratching a p38. I've seen lots of v8s but I'm guessing fuel consumption would be eye watering?

My '88 3.5 and my '93 3.9 returned in the region of 13-16mpg

Gas is the way to go for a V8 - and the purchase is cheaper than a Diesel!

got gas on my 4.6 51 plate, still getting 14.9 round town on petrol, slightly less on gas.
not been on a decent run lately to see what its up to on that, but when i checked it driving back from Blackburn, it was on 24/25.

but my boy racer days of screaming away from the line have died off. still like to give it a boot every now and then though :)

As has been said rust is the main problem, paying £1500 for a tdi model is likely to mean it needs work!! I have a '92 V8 which is surprisingly rust and rot free. Have just purchased a 200 tdi engine and have a friend that will change the engines for me. I know it won't be as nice as the V8 but at around 12/13 mpg it's crippling me!!

Just budget for HGF and slipped liners:rolleyes::D

-0.5 on that. Owned 3 Range Rover V8's and covered over 100k in them and only one head gasket failure (1st P38) which leaked to atmosphere so no internal traumas , but no sign of a slipped liner in any of them:)

But I also owned 2 Jag V8's in the late 90's and early 00's and never suffered from the nikosil problem either so maybe I'm just lucky:)

And whats the betting I've just given myself the dreaded kiss of slipped linerage:eek:
