Hi got my car through the mot both sills have been box sectioned and new body mounts. Rear cross member patched but could do with replacing in the next couple of years as there is rust in the middle that I cant get to but will hold for now.

In the meantime, both sun roofs leaking, rear one majorly yesterday for some reason pouring in.

Alpine windows rotten could poke a screw driver straight through underneath can feel the flex in them.

Boot floor rotten requires replacing, side pieces of the boot floor rotten, both wheel arches rotten and both rear door arches could do with replacing soon.

Serious patches in the foot wells and front arches, almost completely rebuilt with patches.

The cost to do the lot would be far more than the disco is worth. I feel now I would just throw money at it, what's the best thing to do in this situation lol.

I was considering just using it for 12 months and then selling it for spares or repair and looking at something with less rot. What do you get for a disco with a sound chassis engine etc just crap body lol.
 
If it was a fender I'd say keep it and repair but it doesn't sound good :(

Is the defender body easier to repair? I love my land rover just not the hassle involves. Been looking at changing to something a bit more reliable but nothing beats a land rover off road :(
 
The only bits on a fender that rust really are the chassis and bulkhead. The body itself is aluminium so no hassle there. If you want something reliable that's good off-road then a 200tdi defender is your best bet ;)
 
Has it got any sentimental value to you?

It might be cheaper in the long run to buy a better one and transfer all the good bits over to the new one.

Having said that, I've not followed my own advice as I've got mine pretty well stripped at the moment - crusty alpine windows but no rot else where and it's in the bodyshop in 4 weeks for a respray.

The trouble is that getting another one just means that it's going to rust. I suppose it depends whether you want to keep it long term, if you do then repair it properly and then you can relax about those bits.

Mines going to end up like Trigger's broom :)
 
I really don't have the money to throw at another one. Id love a defender but they are expensive and not as comfortable as the disco which is why I bought it. I love it to bits but id need a small mortgage to fix it lol.
 
how about repairing it yourself, buy a mig welder and teach yourself. sheet steal is fairly cheap
would be so much cheaper, fix one part ever few weeks , youl soon have it good again
least then you know the vehicle is sound
 
Financially I'd say it's a no-no. But if there are other considerations, maybe. Perhaps it has some sentimental value, or you want to get into welding and it's a good project. Or you could do it over time so long as it's not your only transport.

Only you can say......:)
 
Buy a cheap welder and have a go.
If you repair it over the next year you will have a good solid motor for less than the cost of buying a replacement and it should last for years.
 
If you ain't got money, then you need to do the work yourself. For that, you need time. If you ain't got the time then scrap it or break it. It took me 8 months to sort mine.
