I have an N reg 19961 300tdi 2.5 auto discovery 1

The last few weeks under acceleration the motor has been putting out black smoke it gets really bad when towing heavy thing up hill

Its not using oil or water the oil is fine no emulsion its not overheating

Im told the airflow meter could be the culprit and its specific to this year and auto cars

Is it the turbo or air meter?

Thanks

Gary

more likely to be a sticking EGR valve. quick and easy to fix with a blanking plate off ebay. first thing I need to do to my 300 auto. black smoke and loss of power.

can be a few things, easiest is to check your intercooler and pipes for a split

I think we have it sussed I checked the hoses but couldnt see anything

Driving through the lakes tonight it shat its self there was smoke everywhere total loss of power I thought Ive finally killed her pulled over got the bonnet open there was oil sparay on the fire wall behind the turbo and a HUGE hole in the rubber elbow that comes from the steel intercooler pipe to the turbo

Werent that bad there was worse places to be broke down I had no gaffer tape in the truck so called the breakdown people and the guy tuned up in ford f150 truck with 5th wheel transporter trailer on the back I was blown away by it

So point is no harm done new pipe quick easy fix

Driving out with no gaffer tape.... pretty sure that's breaks several Landy Laws!

Hope that's your problem sorted though.

Well its better but still not right I got a new pipe from the scrappy today fitted it thought that will sort it but not really

the turbo scream has stopped the smoke is not as bad but the power is still not right the turbo kicks in but when you floor it the turbo cuts out

What do you all think to removing / replacing the inter cooler could it be broken or full of ****?

Thanks

Gary

intercooler is definately worth a look. I left mine to soak full of petrol overnight, just make sure it's bone dry before it goes back in.

So I went to collect a caravan from the other side of the lakes today big mistake The we crawled up the hills and on the way back I nearly died of embarrassment had a cue 20 cars long behind us
was that ****ed of I just went and bought a new intercooler and pipes on the way back to the workshop I think that was a good move because it looked like had leaked

So im pretty sure ths problem is fixed now I took the filter off put my hand over the air intake and it sucked all the pipes in and stalled took it for a run and its running well

I think there may be a problem with the tourque converter its feels like its slipping out of gear

Anyone had a torque converter give up? what happens how do you diagnose this?

Thanks

Gary

The disco is running very very well now better than ever

The Turbo had a bent blade the intercooler was burst and there was a big tear in the intercooler pipe the manifold was cracked after replacing all this things were still not right I was ready to scrap it it was still putting out black smoke under stress

I was thinking electrical problem so driving I had an epiphany it cant breathe so I took off the knn filter and drove for a mile or two an hey prosto it ran great I went straight to the jet was and steam cleaned the filter its being great ever since

I think when the pipe burst it put out a mist of oil in the engine bay and clogged up the filter

My manual is the same.massive under power.when towing my caravan.

No overheating.
checked all pipes seem fine.

If you hit a hill at 60 with my caravan on it seems to drop to 50mph.and into 4th gear it goes no smoke and bit of power but nothing major sticks at 50. Will try the filter tomoz mate cheers
