To carry passengers in the bed of my truckcab. It has no seats in the back, but has a 3/4 tilt. I am under the impression, because there are no seatbelt requirements on side facing seats until 1997, and standard rear seats till 1986, it is legal to carry people in the tub if the canvas is down. Am I right?

I guess it boils down to definition of seat, also if your insurance company cover it as a seat.
Not yours , but if it is classed as a commercial vehicle it has number of seats stated at mot time

Along that line a hilux bed would not be a seat, but if you had cushions on yours-surely they are bench seats?

I think my bro got hammered years ago for carying passengers in the rear of his 88 truck cab

yeah , the arches int seats they recon, but if its a hard top its ok , and am sure if like seat belts they int fitted from year of manufacture then the arches class as seats ,
yer better off chechin with yer ins company , i int got a back on me truck cabs now, me 90 or 88, so i think i would get busted fer havin people sit in the back ! :D

My 110 csw didnt have seat belts on the sidewards facing seat when i got it:rolleyes:

If its got seats and pre 86 its legal in vehicles where seatbelts were not factory fitted..if its got no seats..its illegal.

this is getting better my 1988 110 csw registard as 12 seat still didn't have seat belt on the inward facing rear benchs :D

reviving an old thread ere but at least it shows i did a search ;)

got a 1988 110 first registered in 1990 with (i think) 12 seats but no belts in the side facing benches.

TBH im thinking of pulling the benches out and fitting a panel behind the rear seats but if i was to use them is it legal or not? not worried about my license as i passed my test long enough ago.

inward facing seats do not require seat belts fitting, so will be legal to use as long as its not kiddies or midgets

The maximum number of people (inc. driver) will be the number of seats stated on your registration document, this must tally with what you tell your insurance company when the policy starts. In other words, a series 3 landy (for example) will probably state '3 seats', even though there's room in the back for half a dozen passengers. A 5 seater Discovery (for example) carrying 7 people and involved in an accident would not be insured as the insurance has been invalidated by the extra 2 passengers.

Nigel.

As above.... bottom line is if some fooker sitting in your tub with a bit a canvas as protection gets hurt your in deep ****. You want to lose your house, car etc?? Make em walk!!! even on private land :)
