So I've just seen the nut on the axle facing the back of the car. Should I take it off and.put some EP90 in it until the hub seal is looked at next week?

What nut (pic) there’s loads:oops:

And you are going to farm out a job, and lose the excuse to buy some big manly tools:(

To answer probably yes.

Well it's a plug with a half inch square inset which a half inch drive will fit in.

If its only a week and you aint doing massive high speed miles leave it be until fixed.
It could just be the drive member/gasket/cap that is leaking and a little oil goes a very long way to making a huge mess.
If you pop the wheel off you will be able to see whats going on.

I thought that when the new disc a brakes were put on, but the metal circle on the outside was dry as a bone. It's behind that's the prob but apparently there's no seal as such that can be fitted.

Above that nut on the axle case you will find the breather. Remove this (watch for the 2 copper washers) & blow up the pipe. Bet it's blocked.
Your doing more miles & faster speed causing the pressure build up.

If you also remove the plug in the axle put your finger in to see if you can touch the oil. You can tell how much you've lost.
Good luck

Don’t know who told you that?
When/if you do top up don’t undo the wrong plug otherwise your Landy will definitely mark its spot.

Did you fit the alloys, or was it the previous owner? I’d check the axle breather and banjo bolt firstly, as others have suggested. Top up diff with EP 80/90, but that’s quite a leak! Maybe a failed/missing inner oil seal, but would need to know more about the axle type and wheel alterations.

Now here's the thing. The previous owner had an MOT with an advisory saying that the rear hub seals were perished. I assumed he had them done because the MOT a year later that he had done a day before I picked it up didn't mention it. However, when I got it back home, the first garage I took it too (who ripped me off) said the inner rear axle seal was perished. He tried to get me to put a drum brake axle on but I didn't want one. Then, the chap who fitted my brakes said there isn't a seal behind the hub wheel? Just been out and taken these pics if you don't mind having a quick look and advising. Cheers.

You already have a drum brake axle.
The garage probably said to fit a DISC braked axle which is a good upgrade imho.
Plenty around off discos.

There must be a LZ member close to you who could take a look see?

Drums are okay but they are a maintenance pita compared to discs which any old muppet can fix.

Yeah. Friend of the fam. Major expert, marshall at the mud baths some of you do. He's away this weekend but he'll sort it next friday. Just needed to know if there was something I could do and if safe to use for a week.
