I need to get some new hoses for the turbo / intercooler as old ones are perished. My 90 had its petrol engine replaced with 200 TDI years back before me. I need to know if it came from a disco or a fender as the hoses are different or so Paddocks seems to think. How do I tell if mine is from a disco?

well if its a gen defender 200tdi the the turbo is higher up but post a pic of your engine and peeps will be able to tell you for sure

Either turbo as said above or look at there the air con pump would be bolted on if it had one, disco top of timing chest is flat and defender one slopes of towards the chassis.
Pic is defender engine

Be carefull about both of them as you can change both so it looks like a defender engine, reason being to fit better or cheaper to buy a new fanimould and turbo 2nd hand ect ect, But tbh 99% of the time they will be the original and thus tell you what engine it is.

If you look on the front left hand side of the head as you face the windscreen there will be the block number, 12L is a Disco one block,

Oh, FFS. I've posted these before. Here-
