Yesterday, I turned on my CB for the first time in about ever and monitored it for a bit. Nothing on any channel at all. Not even truckers on 19.

Is CB dead?
 
We use ours when we are in Europe, handy for chat between our son in front and us behind with the big trailer.

We're always on Ch29, don't get much at all on there.

I recently fitted a multi standard CB to my 110 , and both in UK and over a long trip in Europe hardly got a peep out of it , even when flicking thru a few channels on various auto bahns :) So other than in convoy travel probably not worth bothering with, JMHO
 
The usual group of Landy owners I go green laning with use CBs - usually on Ch.16 when on a trip. The thing is, quite often the areas we visit have no cellphone signal - CB is great!

However, outside of that then there's not a lot going on. In my local area there'a few chatterboxes on the breaking channel (19), but there you go - 19's no longer a "breaking channel" i.e so little activity there's no real need to contact someone then take it to another channel!

Yes, CB is in a decline, but no, I won't get rid of it.
 
Yep! Got it in one. Also the group can share quite a lot of friendly banter/info on the route without using up free minutes etc. :)
 
I don't have one installed, but I do have a portable and a mag-mount aerial.
It only goes with me if LZIR ever gives me a call.
 
true i only use mine when out on the lanes. as i don,t seem to get much further than 3 or 4 miles away. plus for some reason it sounds like everybodys whispering even when in a group. but then again its got that bloody switches and dails tuning stuff on it. no bugger seems to know how to set it up right
 
The big advantage is that you can use it while driving and it is perfectly legal. You can end up in trouble if plod catches you using a mobile.
 
I have a walkie talkie for close work, a throw back from building site work. Never ad a CB. My bus has a radio but you only get bollockings on that.
 
CB is still in use between some boats on the Norfolk broads, I'm almost ready to put it in the 110. And when I get the boat back from re-engining it will get a CB too.
The boat aerial will be some sort of retractable base station aerial as many of the mooring areas are heavily blanketed by trees.

Then with a base station at home. me and SWMBO should be able to talk as mobile phone coverage is crap round here.
I know from 30 years ago that due to there not being many hills around here, 30 miles is quite a normal range for a base station the best I ever got back then was central Scotland! Very odd conditions giving a 400 mile range.

ships must of been out to sea a few hundred miles then
