Hello again folks,

Just been doin a bit of hunting around, seems I can get a 57 plate TDV8 3.6 in budget, with 133,000 miles, or for the same money an 06 TD6 with a megare 70,000 on the clock.

Got me thinking, is a TDV8 that much better? For a vehicle that has done twice the miles to be the same money, one would like to assume so.

Would buying a newer model remove me from the "what was that shake at 30mph" club or do they still suffer the same gearbox issues, water ingress, suspension faults.........

Many thanks

Richard

Gearbox is much better. Will still have other issues like all Range Rovers.

The TDV8 is an awesome motor although the 4.4 is a more refined unit!

They do seem prone to alternator failure at 60k mile multiples....

4.4 is way out of my league, I would love one, but one has to be somewhat realistic, 3.6 is stretching it a bit, but won't need to budget on a gearbox repair so its not so bad that way

Yes a tdv8 is worth it much more refined than the td6 ive driven the tdv8 3.6 4.4 the td6 the petrol versions also still waiting on the 5.0l v8 petrol

Our we talking about the l322 range rover or a sport

I had a TD6 before changing it to a 3.6 TDV8, the V8 is awesome but very thirsty.

Obviously be prepared for the £460 car tax every year. But other than that....V8 all the way.

is that thirsty even when driving like a nun ?

as i thought the V8 3.6 did better MPG then the 3.0 TD6 ?

Bigger engine, more cylinders = more mechanical losses plus more power means it will drink more, especially if you boot it a bit.

on paper it achieved better MPG... over 30MPG in fact.
Making it the first range rover to do over 30MPG at the time i think... :)

TD6 is a tractor compered to a TDV8.

I tried driving like a nun when I first got it, but after it just glides along so you tend to go with it.
I even drop into sport mode on the V8 to accelerate away.

L322, if I wanted a discovery I would buy one!!

No I think I have found a niceish one, with 77,000 on the clock in the 17k bracket, but very far away from me. Silver with black interior. Hate the thought of taking a day off to look at a car.

Must be one of the first as its a 56reg

The L322 had a facelift in January 2007. Better off to look at one of those.

Looks lifted, has the double cup holder beside the shifter and the knob for ride height control.

I had a September 06 TD6 Vogue SE which didn't have the scroll button or electric handbrake.

But a January 07 had that and the supercharge grill. Maybe they were options.
