Don't know James, I've not got the hands on experience I'm just pulling info off of ELMRA and the Military Lightweight forum so I'm not going to swear by it.

Specs do show that body width is over 100mm different to a standard Series though but sources don't agree on exact measurements.

Maybe we have some Lightweight owners with tape measures

Quite fancy a Santana 109 LW.

i had one i fully rebuilt,chassis rails etc are the same width as std some out riggers are slightly shorter ,because body doesnt have the barrel sides, windscreen is std

I loved my Airportable but if your going to put a hardtop on it try and source an ex military one as the civvies one sticks out about 1/2 inch each side.

In fact iirc when laden with all the military fitments and stuff they ended up heavier than a civilian 88

Indeed they are heavier when "Fully dressed" ...

as above only when they are stripped for lifting (Doors/roof/screen/top half of rear tub and tailgate etc )do they get close to being a "lightweight"

Hi, I've rebuilt the axles on my 1981 civilian 88 using axle casings from a 1976 lightweight and innards and hubs from a 1983 civilian 88.

It was a bit of a saga, but essentially I found the 1976 lightweight used larger bearings than the civilian models, I can't quite remember but I think the hubs have larger bearing seats but the stub axles are the same. The axle casings were the same on all except for the 1976 having the strengthening bars and the 1983 with the rear facing filler point. Both my 1976 and 1981 axles were junk though so I ended up with the 1983 axle. This uses different stub axles and bearings (same as a Range Rover I believe) so I only used the 1976 axle casing, brake drums and brake backing plates as these were like new.
