Hi lads, my second post on the site, please be gentle
Im heading to see a defender 110 in the afternoon,
Its got high miles, 225k with apparently good service history, being an ex electricity board wagon.
Is it worth going to see? , its a y reg td5 for £4k
Looks tidy enough in the pics, having been recently re painted and looks waxoiled too

This will be my first ever defender, so not really up to doing any massive jobs, anything I should be looking at to make sure this isnt a hound and a waste of my money??

Cheers

Condition and how well its been cared for is more important than milage. Check the chassis and bulkhead thoroughly for rust. The mechanicals are cheap enough

Hi there, it looks a very tidy 110 to be fair.

As long as its been well serviced it should be fine. Just check all of the basics like rear end rust. also ask if its had its cam chain done.

Yeah, what they said ^^ check that it hasn't been waxoyled to cover up filler or holes on the chassis. Use a hammer if you feel brave enough!

Hi folks,
Thanks for the positive information. Planning to see it this afternoon before its dark so will let you know how I got on.
I won't let its fresh paint fool me.
Cheers

Soooo how was it....? was it full of rust that they forgot to mention? were the police there just confiscating as you arrived,:eek:

Hi folks,
Well I came back empty handed
To fair it was clean enough underneath and looked solid. Fresh outriggers & rear x-member
I think I went with an open mind but the lack of service history kind of put me off. Plus, I think I really have my heart set on a SW , prob not bothered if it's a 90/110.
So still looking. Max budget £5k

Cheers

Well at least you didnt rush into something and regret it. We can all be guilty of the green mist desending and just buying it because your there... :)
