i would like to change the oil seal on the ird pinion /flange to prop,there is a crush washer that has to be replaced,cant find settings to pre load the bearrings when torqueing everthing back together has anyone got the information for this job.
 
tighten it up carefully so that it has smooth rolling resistence(you can feel it even though you cant spin flange) which wont be much of a turn past the point all the free play has gone if it has a crushable spacer
 
When doing similar on rear axles I always marked the nut and counted the turns then you make sure the nut is back where it was originally.
 
Can you get away with just replacing the black rubber ring seal in the pic below?
