Anyone know how i refill the IRD oil, I can see a bung but wonder if this is the drain and refill bung, of if theres a lower one for draining and an upper for refilling. im doing the gearbox oil and want to do IRD oil as well.

Thanks

Follow the rave manual completely, else you can bugger the gearbox completely. The Gbox should be connected to the test box and only topped up when up to temperature.

dont be frightened about it having to be at a certain temp,
its a LR freelander not a rocket ship:D , technology is one thing but dont get sucked into the idea it can only be carried if you have the specilaised equipment .

its common sense, take car for drive to warm up oil, then just park on level ground, undo filler plug first, drain oil out, refill using the small plastic bottles with the clear pipe atached, its quite awkward refilling, make sure you have enough oil ,best to be safe than sorry, fill to the bottom of filling plugg, dont overfill, it helps if the oil is at room temp makes it flow easier, and last thing, take car for a test drive and then recheck levels,

very straight forward job,

Thanks very much, for putting my mind at rest, im not a mechanic, but i have built several kit cars, so home mechanics is something im more than happy with, and having now completed the job im pleased to say its not the nightmare i thought it would be. Although im glad ive done the job as there only seemed to be about 250ml of IRD oil in there, which probably explains the slight leak it appears to have. and the gearbox oil was proper manky.

Thanks once again

Got to do my ird next year [waitin fer warmer weather] best job you can do is g/box un ird un top up back bit. . . .did you find the ird an easy job?. . . .:)

ming ,,the only difficult bit is getting the oil into the filling hole, but its not a huge problem using the plastic bottles with clear pipe attached ,they bend nicely, just make sure you have more oil than you gonna need ,

Get a pressuised pump action plant sprayer you can buy quiet small ones from a garden centre bin the spray nozzle and fit a length of flexi pipe to it fill with gearbox oil, ATF etc and pump up, press button and the pressure will feed the oil up the pipe and into the box no mess no hassle.

Yep tiss a good idea redneck. . . . .let yer know how it werks , but gonna wait till its a bit warmer me finks. . . . .:) :) :)
