Morning all.

I am currently in the process of replacing the IRD on my much loved freelander td4 (yes, much loved). The problem I have is that bastard of a top mounting bolt, you know the one behind the front one that is a bitch to get to!!!!.

What I am after is someone to come out to my house if possible and assist me in removing it please. I live in Bognor and I am prepared to pay (in beer if you would prefer).

I am guessing it would need a air ratchet of some sort to get onto it as there isn't much room in there.

If any body can help or advise that would be great. I have already phoned some mobile mechanics down my way and they were all less than helpful. :):D

can you get a breaker bar or spanner on the nut?

if so bash the bejesus out of it............it will let go :)

Hi.

Yes I can get a spanner and a short breaker on it, trouble is it doesn't leave me any room to get a hammer in there to smash the life out of it. It may just be me making a meal of it but I just cant get it to budge at all. aaaaarrrrrgggghh:D

on my L series i used a medium 1/2 inch extension and ratchet i then used a spanner on the ratchet for extra leverage

dnt use a breaker bar there ok but if you use a 6 point socket it can only be in 6 position with a ratchet you can get the room you need to undo it

be warned i did lose skin a few knuckles but it did the job

have you removed the bottom engine mounting ?, enables the engine to tilt, might give you a little more room to get at it

Thanks for all your advice.

Tried it all and it is still there, tight as you like.

Bottom engine mounting has been removed but it only seems to tilt when I have applied a lot of force on the ratchet.

What makes this all a bit farcical is am 6 foot 2 and built like a lavatory house so I should be able to remove the bloody thing!!!!. I guess I lack the necessary technique.

over tighten it and break it off then replace it with a new bolt and nut

With the engine mount removed jack up the front of the engine allowing it to tilt the back of it to give you a bit more room to attack said bolt. Like dm said an impact gun if you can get at it with one.
