Has anyone fitted or no if there is such a thing as an adapter to use with standard head unit in a 1998 2.5 DSE? I don't really want to buy a CD player as most of my music is downloaded now and also I like the idea of keeping things original. I have seen some items that fit into the Cd changer input but would like to know if anyone has done this or can give some advice.

I just use one of them FM things that clip onto the Ipod, then sends the signal to the radio....works and sounds great. Thought about a CD player but whats the point!!
 
i used a fm transmitter - it was shocking quality

im taking mine out and putting in a sony cd (bt-2500)

i had one in my jeep last year but left it in when sold

they are excellent - supports wireless music streaming from my sony ericsson phone - also has bluetooth (saves a fine) calls are picked up clear and well through it

ebay price now is about £80 - absolute bargain - my last one was £150 few months back

im keeping standard one to sldie back in when if i sell it
 
So could I work my ipod on it then?.....or does that mean i would have to get a sony phone to ....I like the idear of bluetooth!
 
I didn't want to replace the head unit but there are some for under £70 with ipod control and that seems pretty reasonable, suppose I could keep the original head unit and put it back in when i sell.
 
yeah - its got an input (3.5mm ) for a ipod




alpine do an Ipod controller head unit (IDA 1000?) its £300 and has a screen that show same as on your ipod - but it doenst have a cd - its just an ipod headunit - i think its overpriced at the mo - but the other thing is - if your ipod craps up youve got no tunes

the sony bt2500 is now in halfords for £119 but ebay its £80
you can pair any blutooth enabled phone with it, ring tone comes through your speakers, you press a button on head unit to answer, when your done your music comes back on auto, i dont think they can be beat at that price - my RR is a 2000 and the stereo is so antiquated

Which is perfect quality I find. HOWEVER, the one above got the connector broken off the end by one of my passengers. I didnt think anything of it at the time and went and bought another one from Maplins and that really was terrible, awful quality and the sound just was completely ruined from the iPod.

So, I went and got a new plug for the end of the existing one and soldered it on and did a repair to make sure it wont come off again and its been fine ever since, perfect quality.

maybe you have just had your head in the sand then :confused::cool:

I used one of those as well £1 from the £1 shop for my Sony Walkman NW3000 mp3player. I brought 3 because I expected em to break. still got all 3. sound quality is great.
 
Have to disagree about the FM transmitter being shocking. I got one the other day and fair play it was rubbish on the AAA batteries provided but plugged into the fag lighter it sounded perfect. Agree about the cassette adaptor, thoght i'd woken up in 1991! :D :D :D
 
I use a Creative MP3 kit which includes a cig lighter charger, works great, you can buy from any computer shop or buy a kit from Radio Shack.

I use a Pioneer CD/RDS headunit with an iPod adapter and AUX adapter, it works great and sound good too.

But Becker Grand Prix 7990 Amber CD/MP3/WMA, Bluetooth Telephone, iPod Ready sounds even greater and you can use an iPod adapter with it.

My brother have one in his Mercedes and the sound quality is really good and the userinterface is easy and without all the fuzzy lights that my Pioneer has.

Think this is my next headunit. :D

I've always found the FM transmittors are great unless you're driving around London in which case you pick up all the pirate radio stations instead.

The quality through those cassette things is shocking, it always was! You're sending crisp, digital information through a magnetic reader! It's never going to be as good as plugging your iPod directly into the head unit.

You can get adapter leads from Alpine that use the Aux in port at the back of your head unit and have the plug to go into your ipod. Just find a neat place to feed it through.

I wouldn't know why you'd want to keep it standard though unless you're not bothered about the sounds being made by a head unit that's the same as one from a 1990 Rover!!??

If you have an iPod you must be into music enough to want to treat your ears to a nice soundstage!??
 
i use an fm transmitter called a DLO transpod. it plugs into the fag lighter and charges the ipod. you can store 4 different fm frequencies in case you get interference from local radio.
