Ah! pretty lucky that didn't end much worse than a tow home :(

2 door RRC's can be reliable with sympathetic updating - there are various outfits who'll rebuild one to your spec ..... for a price! - actually quite a hefty price

If I replace either of our D1's - it'll be with an RRC, probably a 2 door .... I'm certainly not going more modern. High in the Pennines as we are, it is very damp much of the year - four months of winter, and 8 months of bad weather as a neighbour puts it :D - and all this electronic "stuff" will NOT live o_O

Ask me how I know
I have the Golf and Nissan when I want reliability!
On winter tyres they are very capable.

Well there wasn’t a great deal wrong with it but I guess leaving it with my garage to knock out the odd minor dent, remove the odd blemish and lose the bull bar was bound to result in him repainting every panel. I am sure it didn’t shine like that when it was new!

Who’s got dibbs on the bull bar? :D
I removed the bull bar in order to change a headlamp bulb (and while I was on I replaced the bonnet release cable, what a job that was!). The bottom of the verticals, just above where they bolted to the chassis, were rotten. I didn’t know anyone who wanted a bull bar at the time so it didn’t seem worth getting them replaced so I am afraid it went for scrap. I kept the rubbers off the uprights on the basis that they have nice little logos on them and might come in useful one day.
