Hi there,

Just registered, and looking forward to reading all the interesting threads on this forum.

I have a 1951 80" which I've owned since 1998 and finished restoring in 2006, yes a long time I hear you say and I would agree with you, but in my defense I moved house twice and the last one was a self build.

I already visit a few other forums, but what I like about this one is the variety of Land Rover vehicles discussed. I'm also toying with the idea of buying a new Defender next year and look forward to all your comments on this subject.
I will probably be running it as a company vehicles, deliveries, collections and general runabout, that sort of thing.

I've noticed that the VED on the Defender varies depending on which sellers site you visit. If someone can clarify this issue for me that would be a good start.

I'll post some pictures of my 80" when I've worked out how to do it.

You have a S1, 3 people have looked your post and no-one's answered you!

How rude! :)

Welcome to the site, have a sense of humour and a fairly thick skin and you'll be made very welcome!

There's some proper thick sins over here :D

Thanks for your welcome as well Jane.

Since my last post I've found out that the Defender is now classed as commercial, and currently attracts a VED of £225.

I'm going for the basic 90" hard top in keswick green, what accessories should I get other than a tow hitch?

Oh dear Blue Beasty that doesn't sound good, have you had some bad beastly experiences?

What sort of things can I expect?

Fortunately I am a member of the RAC, and the salesman told me that the current Defender is possibly the best that Land Rover have produced.

Is there a published list of the most common faults found on new Defenders?

There's only really one fault...

It's the Land Rover :D

To be fair in 7 years of driving Series Landys I've never had to call them.....

Well that's probably blown that now then

I was told by a wise old land rover mechanic that if it wasn't leaking it was probably empty.

You can't beat a visual sign that all is well, as long as it's not fuel.
