I want to have built a good-quality internal roll cage for a LR Defender Td5 110 County Station Wagon. About how much should I pay? (Please indicate the country you're writing from.) Btw, it has to be custom-built as I'm overseas and it's not possible to buy one "off the peg", nor do I wish to have it shipped.

Please also mention any advice you might have about this item.

Thanks

I can't imagine a roll cage OUTSIDE the vehicle, and have never seen one. (Perhaps I'm using the wrong technical term.) Yes, a vehicle gets wrecked, but the purpose of the cage is to try to prevent injury or death.

there's been plenty of external cages fitted, the benifits includes less intrusive installation and a higher degree of vehicle protection

Apologies for my eaerlier post saying I've never seen an external roll cage. (It was true, but next time I'll go and find about something I don't know about and post my comments after that.)

Hi Sean,

Can you explain why an external cage would be more protective than an internal?
IMO the external cages will not be very effective without any internal bracing?
I could be wrong.................

Thanks.

external cages normally do have at least one internal brace bar, the less damaging is as a whole... ie vehicle and occupants as opposed to just occupants with an internal cage

cheers steve

An external roll cage doesn't just add extra vehicle protection, it will also increase the protection of the occupants. If the vehicle does roll over, on an external cage the cage hits the ground first. On an internal roll cage the vehicles sides and roof hit the ground before the cage which deforms them, also potentially shattering the side windows on the occupants which in turn offers less protection to other objects coming through from the ground.
Cheers Eddie

What would you recommend for a soft top, BUT I have to import it and install it myself.
It has to be able to ship disasembled.

Thanks.

Some o e like Saftey devices but you pay for the name, someone like pressbrake on here should be able to knock you something up at a good price,

There was a thread that he started about making a cage for someone on here and his work looks good and at a fair price to.
