Hope you can help or have some idea to point me in the right direction, after disco had been in damp conditions it would not start I could here the solenoid clicking in but no starter motor, I have cleaned all earth connections and battery connections and starter motor connections all appeared to be fine next time it got damp/wet same thing again would not engage the starter motor but solenoid clicking in and out no problem so kept trying after about 5 attempts it started, then a day later the same thing to 5-6 attempts to get the starter motor to engage but once its started it seams fine for the rest of the day.

Could be worn contacts in solenoid. Refurb kit available on e-bay for around £20. Best done by removing starter, but that can be a real PITA, getting at all three fixings!!
I did my D2 with starter still on car. Using ramps and crawling under. Bit of a fiddle but managed it. There is an article on doing this on one of the Disco forums. You may find it by Googling "Discovery Solenoid".
Good luck.

Just checked. Google "Discovery Starter Solenoid".
You will get lots of info on problem and how to fix.
