Probably! I've got gammy eyes. One looks up, one down and the other just spins around. Not sure why I've said that so if if doesnt make sense ignore it.

I wrote it in a rush trying to avoid the Xfactor!

Hi Guys, my 99TD5 had the same problem, took the starter motor off changed the worn solenoid contacts for new, now first click starter. Parts cost about £12 delivered off
e-bay. Starter motor removal is a bit awkward though, one dodgy nut on the top side that is a real b****r to get at, have read elsewhere that it is not needed so once you have got it off do not replace it.

Cheers,

Jez..

Guy's mine is doing this and I now have the 310 repair kit at home but what ids the best way to the starter motor, underneath or battery box out?

Still not convinced its the soliniod as my radio settings (Bass/Trebel) keep going back to zero indicating a bad earth, I did post where is the TD5 Disc earthed to but no replies as yet, had thought it was the - terminal on the battery but still have problems.

Any help muchly appreciated.

Hi Big Matt,

I did my starter motor from underneath, seemed like the easier option at the time. Bloody awkward though. Maybe somebody can comment on the battery box removal method.

Solenoid kit is avaible of ebay for 12.95 with postage. esay to do. Jack up front of vehicle or put on ramps. Undo the three bolts on the end of the starter motor solenoid cover. Pull out plunger. It will have a spring on the end. Undo the contact on the left of the solenoid as you look at it from the front. Replace with the new one in kit. Dont bother with the other one if it looks ok. Put spring on to new plunger then put plunger back in. Refit cover. You will see how worn the contacts are. Shouldnt take more than an hour to do.

clean and grease up motor bush's make sure they move freely, if they stick you will still have problems. don't be tempted to leave the top bolt out thats when you get **** inside and the bush's get ****ed. they were designed with three bolts for a reason.

Hi,had the same problem, not any more.It was the starter relay(under bonnet behind battery next to fuses). To check this swap it with the rear wiper relay next to it(its the same).if this works new relay should be about £18.

top one is a stud and nut,
not a bolt, but easy to get nut on anyway, patience is a virtue.

Still not starting, new contacts on solenoid, swapped starter relay for another in box, solenoid engages, starter engages just won't turn engine.
I've downloaded Rave but can't get full version to work.

Battery is my next option, then starter.
Bit of a bugger, just been offered 2 weeks work starting tomorrow. Bollocks.

Don't know where you are but i have two recon td5 starters in me garage if you need one.

Thanks for the thought, 300 miles North of you. :(
Car started with a tow start this aft, has started a couple of times since.
My money's on a new battery required.
Cheers all.

can you not borrow a battery to make sure thats what it is. when you had the starter off did you check the brush's on the motor, mine seized up and would not start every time, as soon as i cleaned and greased the bush's it fires up straight away.

Can you get hold of another vehicle and jump leads to start the car? If it starts when jumped, your battery needs charging overnight or replacing.
