Got a RangeRover 3.9 1993...

And, the interior light is intermittent, when the door is opened, the light comes on as expected, then when you close the door, it either decides to go off after a few seconds(normal), or stay on, for upto about an hour!

Anyone got any ideas?

try the switches on the doors,, clean connections and try again

mine does that occasioanlly. change the console to the one out of my project motor
that cured it for a bit, then fault appeared again
i unplugged my console unit and cleaned the contacts

has been fine ever since touch wood

When you push the door switch, you can hear the relay working, so the door switch is doing what it is supposed to.

Excuse my ignorance, but, what, and where is the console unit?

The whole unit for the interior light in the roof, it is son two catches and you can just pull it out, there is a circuit board up there and 1 connection for all the three interior lights

Also if you push and hold the main interior light on for 5 secs or so it should bring up a message on the message centre display ( the bit under the speedo / rev counter etc)

It turned out to be the relay! £40!!
