Sidecar fan

Recently when towing my P38 will over-heat, usually going up hill so there is load on the engine with the gauge starting to go into the red, and then will go back to normal once we are on the flat or going downhill.

It has also happened when driving, without towing, and once in only just a short distance.

Have changed the viscous fan and coupling and the thermostat but still the same problem.

Any suggestions please.

Check that your radiator is getting uniformly warm.

If it has cold patches, it maybe silted up and will need a flush or replacement.

Diesel or petrol:confused:

What mileage are you on? If it's ~100k radiator and water pump could be going
If the radiator isn't getting warm evenly, it's probably clogged up.
If it turns out to be pump make sure you get one with a metal impellor.
Check Wammers' EAS how to for details of how to safely check viscous fan... or just shove a newspaper through it for the unsafe check :p
Expansion cap might also be worth a look :)
