Thank you , guys for the posts! I posted it yesterday and now we have 3 pages!

Yes, the 3 door interior lighting is really bad and the lights are miles away behind..my opinion. Thats why i will try with MGF mirror to get more light in the front. Im just wondering if the lights switch on automaticall by opening the doors.

Here is a picture of modification : 5 door light put in 3 door.. not good to me

Thanks

If you leave the switches , switched on , and wire the light into the eggsisting lamp they should come on with the doors open. (and alarm unlock)

I believe (without double checking...) live is permanent and the earth is the switch. The original lamp will have live, earth and switched. So wire into the live and switched however you won't then have the option of switching on the mirror light seperate ly.

But I could be talking out if my arse and the mgf lights may have the same three wire set up as the freelander in which case happy days...

Looked at the ones on eBay.... They are 3wire so. Ignore my previous post.
will work with doors and individually with doors shut

Thats the answer i was looking for ZDomZ! Thank you once again!

I purchased one from ebay with enough wiring lenght to be able to connect to the existing interior lighting. Should be not an issue to fit..

Will post again once fitted.

Was thinking of doing the 5 door light fitting conversion like the earlier post, but it just doesn't seem to fit right to me...........
I have put a LED bulb in the interior light of my 3 door and although it is in the center of the roof, the bulbs are so good now days that it is more than bright enough. Mind you, I have also put strip LED's under the seats and above the back door which are all connected to the light in the boot, so dark nights are not a problem.

I've got some led strips I am gonna fit in the foot wells but I might combine the mgf mirror as well cuz of the reading/ map light function. I've got a led strip in the boot as well cuz the standard light I shocking.

Hi Dougden,

i read your post regarding this and would say..looks really nice.
I havent changed any bulbs at all, to be honest, because i want to keep the car as it is without so much mods..but obviously i have to:)

What kind of lights did you install under the seats?

The MGF mirror has 3 wires. This means it can come on with the interior light and on the switchs fitted to the mirror.

Hello!

The mirror came today. My job is now to wire it to the existing interior light above my head. As im a beginner, would ask for help.

I read previous posts about wiring: , earth , live etc etc.. but cant get it.

So the MGF Mirror has 3 wires: purple, purple/red and black. The interior light has 2 wires in: purple/white and purple.

I have pictures attached...

Thank you in advance

The existing interior light is earthed via the fixing which is why the black wire is missing. So that's easy to sort just find a suitable earth point and connect the black wire to that.

For the others ones permanent live and the other is fed from the doors - use a multimeter to work out which does what and then you'll have to play around with the MGF mirror to work out the corresponding wires.

Am I missing something here, why would you want to fit a rear view mirror to the centre roof light in a three door.

The MGF and Freelander mirrors use the same 'mounting slug' bonded to the windscreen.

In the MGF it's part number is EDP5642 -

Slug-windscreen mirror fixing - Genuine MG Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

EDP5642.jpg

In the Freelander it's part number is EDP5642L -

Adhesive Foil - Rr View Mirror Innr - Genuine Land Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

As is often the case with common MG-Rover and Land Rover parts, it works out dearer (a whole 14p in this case) to buy the Land Rover one with the 'L' suffix

Either way, as the mirrors use a common mounting, they will be interchangeable.

The wiring of the MGF mirror and freelander interior lamp are compatible.

The Freelander interior lamp (as already said) is earthed through its mountings.

The Purple wire is a permanent live.

The Purple wire with the White tracer goes to the CCU, which 'fades' the interior lamps by controlling the path to earth (there's no direct connection of the interior lamps to the door switches).

The MGF mirror is similarly wired, as follows -

Black wire to earth.

Purple wire to permanent live.

Purple wire with Red tracer to the Multi-Function ECU (which performs the same interior lamp functions as the Freelander's CCU)

.

Bingo!

Now we have here specialist!

Thank you very much for this details and hope this info would be helpful for everyone.

Cheers

Was thinking either an MGF mirror as in this thread or a Disco mirror with auto dimming feature and compass (3-wire), however the mount won't fit the hippo (Part No: CTB100240 + CTB100010).

So it looks on balance the MGF is the easier swap if you don't want to attempt to remove the mount from the glass.

Removing the mirror mount from the window is easy. I did it the day before I sold my V6 while cleaning the glass.
