The foam is there to stop accidental contact with the arial base. The front board is just a switch mount. All the wiring for the bulbs is on the top board, so could easily short out on the arial base.

I've fitted 2 decent quality 150 lumin LED's into front interior light today. It's like Wembley stadium in the front now. I linked the map lights into the center one too. This brings the lighting up to date. Hopefully I'll have time to add a 150 lumen LED to the rear later tonight.

It's the switch board that's obviously burnt out though.
Maybe my light was just knackered anyway.
Them bulbs might not be quality but for the cost of them they are top dollar compared to anything else I've seen.
I'll just do this check on the bulb and if all is OK I will refit.

i have fitted leds front and middle and no problems.
in the boot i have taken the build out and put a relay in line(so when interior lights come on the relay is trigger)
this then turns on my boot light and my leds on the back door (inside)
the relay is for when i put more lights on and are powered from my aux battery

I got my new light today, tried the bulbs again and no luck, so I took them back and got a set of different ones, tried them and had the same problem, one worked and one didn't if I change front (working) to the back and back (not working) to the front then the back would work and not the front, but depending which bulb I had in the front I could get the rear to work but not properly.
This my rear light is knackered so gonna go for eBay LED's and a new light for the rear too.

Yes there is a right and wrong way to fit them. Most automotive LEDs are polarity dependent so must be fitted the correct way round to work ;)

I've just quickly ran to Hanford for a 3rd and final set, they only work round 1 way unlike the others that worked both ways but 1 wouldn't work properly.
I feel like a right tit, new interior lights and 3 sets of bulbs later plus a pack of 10a fuses for no reason.
Thanks for that bit of info I now have led lights in my car and they are allot better.
 
Don't feel a tit, I can remember when LED lights first came out and a mechanic working with us wired in a full set on a rear of a lorry...... six days later the penny dropped lol. We also had a batch of halogen beacons that had two black wires, wire them in one way the bulb would light and the motor wouldn't turn but fine the other way, you can imagine how many of them were returned.

Where did you buy your LEDs from, I might fit a set to the interior lights on mine, I see lots of them on ebay but not sure of the quality, the loose LEDs from china are good, I have converted bulbs myself to LEDs years ago but can't be asses as they are so cheap these days.

I wasn't waiting until late feb early March for a delivery from Hongkong, I got mine in halfords.
3 different sets and several colours, I've gone for white bit they have pink and blue as well.
On offer for a set £6.99 at the moment.

I'm fussy with lighting. I don't like cold white LEDs or the short life some of them have when connected to 14+ Volts of a modern car electrical system.
I use warm white G4 domestic LEDs these days. I order them from china on ebay at a cost of about a pound each. The type I order are AC/DC so aren't polarity dependent and aren't affected by voltage fluctuations found in cars. I've soldered these into the interior light housing. These provide much more light than standard car type LEDs and a colour I prefer.
I've made some up for the side lights too.
I convert cheap LEDs into a better, brighter longer lasting by fitting the base onto a better LED.

I wish all this stuff was said before.
I can rip an engine out and rebuild with my eyes closed but when it comes to electrics I haven't got a clue..
That is a clever idea, I don't think mine are bright enough if I'm honest.
You should do a side line business making them up for all of what £4 then sell here for £10 I'd buy them :)
 
I still have my glove box, boot light and side lights to upgrade yet..
Done my number plate lights, getting a Hid kit as well.
But that's all at a later date as I have my boot handle and sunroof still to fix got the spring kit to fix the handle and a sunroof repair kit which I actually think is the wrong one.
I don't know if I was ripped off with my car or not but I've seen them up for 3k plus on eBay for my model.
Had to do a fair few jobs though :0(
