Hi

Had someone reving the engine at the weekend while I was under the bonnet. The intercooler hose going to the inlet manifold (the longer one, not the shorter elbow) was "ballooning" slightly as the revs came up.

Should I change them or is this normal?

If they need to be changed some on ebay have a sensor, some don't. Which sensor is it?

Thanks,

does yours have the sensor in the long hose, if not then replace like for like.

shouldn't really be ballooning like that.

Both this one and the 90 degree elbow one are virtually service items and they aren't that expensive to change and a lot easier to change in the workshop than on the side of the road. Ask me how I know .

Sounds like the voice of experience Allan!

it is possible to repair the long hose with an empty coke can, five cable ties and a roll of duct tape.

it really is, when you're 75 miles from your destination on a Sunday morning callout, with a christening to get to, it really works.

not really a long term solution though.

replace it i know, got towed home, 130 mls coz, rac said i had blown the head gasket turned out to be the lower pipe. thanks to the knowledge of this website

and yes i cried all the way home thinking of the cost

My 05 TD4 has the sensor in the long hose, the only ones on ebay were from Guy Salmon the LR dealer, now £40.99 plus P&P.

mine had the sensor in the pipe but i just bought the cheaper one without the sensor, cut the end off and then refitted the sensor off the old pipe , hey presto saved 25 quid :D

can post some pics if anyone wants to see it....

I thought about doing this but chose to renew the lot as you still have the small hose after the sensor that is the original.

Are there not 3 pipes?

1 to the intercooler, 1 from the intercooler and 1 small elbow to the EGR valve?

All the silicon kits only have 2

There are some on ebay that have the 3 hoses but you are looking at paying about £68 and this is without the new sensor. When I bought the genuine LR part a few months ago i think it cost about £30 ish but I would have preferred silicone hoses if the 3 hoses had been available at the time.

Cheers Nick, I'll have a look later!

no, you replace it with the piece you've just cut off!! only part of old hose re-used is the sensor........

Looks like most of the kits only have the 90 deg elbow and the intercooler to manifold, not the turbo to intercooler????
