right just finished 200tdi conversion into series, and eventually i want to fit intercooler where the horn used to sir, ontop of steering thingy !
havent got enough pipes etc yet and want to get back on the road,

can i run without an intercooler ? pipe from turbo to manifold like 19j

how bad will mpg be ? and could it damage the engine

all input will be very welcome !

thats made my day a whole lot easier then ! will still knock up some mounts for it while i have the welder out though,

can i ask how you did your exhaust, my bit off the turbo collides with chasis ?

i use the conversion piece from ebay ,and on some had to lift engine mounts and inch to get it to clear well

How come you are not using tdi radiator? If you are doing that are you using td rad?. You can fit performance intercooler behind the rad.

i have just done the same in my 90 ..i left the 19j rad in as its bigger so keeps cooler i had no intercooler {run fine} for a week or 2 then i moved the washer bottle abit and put the intercooler under the top of the wing with a cold air intake ...i know not all engines are the same but it did make a diffidence to mine rough guess 30bhp ...

interesting the amount of power difference you say,
where was that under one of the wings in the wheel arch ? thats the only place i can think to put it

Dunno what planet you live on but NO WAY does an intercooler make that sort of difference.

Standard set up kicks out 112 bhp.....with no turbo at all about 80 bhp

Well luke, would have thought you need the air to go through the vanes of the intercooler for it to cool efficiently. Off to the side wouldnt be too efficient i would think.

Theres several ways i woulda thought. Keep an eye out for a cheap thin one for in front or just bite the bullet and get a disco rad and intercooler. My airbox will be going in front of the washer bottle, at the moment its an adapted racing induction kit fixed to extended snorkle pipes.

yeah i just moved the washer bottle abit and mounted it in the inner wing loads of space ...
and i get them fingers from running it with and without a intercooler

With out an intercooler liable to be running sub 100bhp. With it get 115max. Reduced resistance on the air intake "should" be beneficial as the better the intake speed the increased flow to the engine.....

You can "charge" the air intake to improve figures. There are powered chargers as opposed to belt driven on the market.

I'd offer links but am away on hols in the heart or cumbria with no signal.:D

So youre seriously suggesting that hooking up an intercooler in the wing gives you something in the region of a 28% power boost?

You are either genuinely mistaken or a bull****ting arse.

I'm assuming the 1st option :p
