Ok I feel like a right numpty for posting this but here goes. I've recently replaced the radiator on my defender with 300imotor, and refilled as Mr Haynes instructions but was experiencing a lack of heat out of heater so was going through the filling/bleeding process when I've realised while squeezing there's no coolant in the intercooler hoses which I'm assuming there should be..... so my question is how the smeg do I fill it? in my ignorance I'd assumed it was connected to engine cooling system, but having looked at the hoses it looks self contained. I've read Busters 200i intercooler replacement but I'm none the wiser

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PUT COOLANT IN THE INTERCOOLER OR ITS HOSES. If YOU DO YOU WILL HYDRAULIC LOK THE ENGINE.

As Blue beasty says, it simply cools the air drawn in by the engine. Leave it well alone.
 
NOooooooo! It only looks like a coolant radiator. It cools the compressed air from the turbo (which gets hot when squeezed), before it goes into your engine, because the cooler the air the more dense it is and more air allows more fuel to burn hence giving more power than from the identical non turbo engine. Its over simplified but you get the idea.
