Originally my 1985 V8 90 had an external fuel pump on the chassis
But seeing as all the original parts are rusted and I've got to start the fuel system from scratch
I've got the opportunity to fit either an intank or external fuel pump
So the question is, is there any pro's or cons to either set up
The engine is a stock 21G 8.13.1 on strombergs
All opinions are appreciated

External may give easier access.

If an in-tank fuel pump would be easily accessible without having to drop the fuel tank to get at it then it doesn't really matter.

i replaced my old 109 2.6 with another external fuel pump as i liked the easy access , it was originally mounted on side of chassis rail, and as the wiring was already there was an easy swap. Plus i added a small clear fuel filter before the pump to keep the crap out which was also easy to keep an eye on.

Can second what Hairball said with regards to the second filter, note to myself: add one as well.

Mine, 82 RRC on dual Zenith carbs, has the external pump mounted on the left front inner wing. LHD, so it sits directly under the brake cylinder. This way she's out of the mud, and water and other junk and assorted goo. Plus, as I realis!d, it is nice to hear her work. Being able to tell whether or not she's running dry, or at all, helps sometimes.

Plus, origibal Facet pumos are quite cheap, at least they were two years or so ago.

The facet barrel type pumps have an internal filter that can be cleaned.

there is a nice kit on fleabay with filter & pressure gauge. As the filter is a glass type you can see fuel & dirty filter
