I have had numerous arguments with people over this, but I know from experience, they are VERY cheap to insure for youngens.

I started learning on my 17th in June 2007, in a Ford Fiesta 1.3, insurance was £1,600. I passed in Feburary 2008, and bought and insured the SIII on my 18th, so with already 1 Year NCB I was on a winning role. They gave me another one or two years free when I got the landie, and it brought the insurance down to £775, its now just over £600 and Im 20.

The answer is, people use these price comparison sites, and when I tell them the NFU is the way to go, they phone the national line! DOH:doh::doh::doh:.

Phone your LOCAL branch of the NFU, go in, have a chat. You don'thave to be a farmer. Simples.

Dads - S3 88" wagon, 38 years without a claim, Aqoute, Fully comp, unlimited milage total price for the year £84

Mine - S2a 109" FC, lancaster, fully comp, unlimited milage, 8 years no claims (25 years of age), multiple qualifications in driving, £340

Will give NFU a try for me renewal in november, thanks Landie_man :)

I have rung two local branches on NFU (Tenterden and Edenbridge) when I was 18 and again when I was 19, and both came up with seriously uncompetitive quotes.

NFU quoted me about 3 times what I pay with sureterm, which is currently 84 quid fully comp.

I'm 19 and have been with the NFU since i was 17. Always used the local office and they have been very helpful. You can often find cheaper quotes from 'car' insurance companies but they dislike modifications whereas the NFU are happy for me to have retrofitted a 300tdi, and fit a liftkit/roll cage in the next few weeks. As long as i don't increase the value of the vehicle, they won't increase my premium. A lot of companies that specialise in modified landys don't insure you until your 21+.

I rang my local branch of NFU and they wouldn't even give me a quote. You get it cheap as its a series so it is a classic.

NFU dont seem to want to come anywhere near me with a 90 with a 3.9 conversion. Said they could if I had contacts but not if I didn't. Pee'd me off a little.

Where you live also effects it, I live 3 miles from my cousin, completely different post codes, at 20 I had a 51 plate TD5 Disco as did he, I was paying £800ish and he was paying £300ish, very similar driving historys, and we had both shopped around hard for quotes, locals, nationals, brokers etc, its a lottery on getting a good price. Saying that I'm paying £200 now with Flux at 26 on a '96 300tdi 90 with everything declared, I'm happy with that to be honest.

Nfu have so far insured me on a 97 Disco 300, series 3, my 90 with a disco 300 in it, 2007 subaru, 2005 clio and always been very competitive. (last 2 were only cover notes though) Hi harry, where abouts you from?
