Hi everyone,

I am just about to get my first Landy, a 110 county station wagon. My enthusiasm took a hit today when I went to get insurance £1800!

The vehicle will be garaged and locked up and will do 1k miles a year.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company for me?

Thanks in advance,

Look on the bright side, at £1.80 per mile for insurance, the money pit that it will be and shit MPG won't matter 1 bit.

We do like to look on the bright side and cheer people up here in LandyZone.

Dont tell us you went to AF;).

Is it a standard vehicle? I am guessing you are not 1 of those youngsters and your license is on the clean side.;).

Many insurance peeps out there so shop around, ask if the premiums would be less if good security (approved) fitted. Its always good to have anyway:)

I used A Plan for our low use car they did a limited mileage policy too.
You will have to trawl around I am afraid, but it does sound rather alot.

Hastings direct for my Landy. Max no claims, no commuting or business use, limited milage and max no claims bonus. £200 ish.

I don't want to offer recommendations as there are SO many variables that an insurance underwriter will take into account when quoting. My advice is to shop around for both normal & classic vehicle cover.
Make sure that you read or listen to exactly what cover is being offered & don't be brow-beaten into accepting the first quote.
In many cases you may have to weigh up the chances of your having to claim against accepting high excesses & don't be afraid to indicate that the price is too high, often it's negotiable as it's a very competitive industry & 'they' want your business; they are not doing you a favour.
I've had a RRC on a classic car policy for years, but when I tried to get the same form of cover for our 24 year-old car the quote was a lot more than our current standard policy o_O
Good luck !

Wait till you get to 80. Trying to renew insurance for my Freelander 2 auto.
As I m now 80 quotes are age related.
Rural area, 5k a year and £250 excess i am being quoted from £425 to £781 from saga.
Not due till 16th June so will keep looking. Aplan were £692.
Joys of landrover ownership

Forgot to say my current cost was £313 from Directline, waiting on their renewal quote.

I'm only too well aware of the 'age' problem as I'm 77 & already find it cheaper to insure our daily 24yo BMW in my partner's name as the main driver.
I have to say that DL are very competitive & have have just renewed with them at a lower premium than last year.

Under 25 years of age premiums are loaded, then you get to 75 & cop it again :(

Postal code was a doozy when I had 110 csw 1988 V8. They lumped together surrounding area where I live. Bob the busdriver of Bum will know these areas well.
Moston Failsworth Chadderton Blackley higher Blackley Charlestown Middleton Langley Newton Heath Miles Platting Collyhurst Cheetham Hill Harpurhey Crumpsall. If you live in near or have a post code linked with theses. Chances are you can add £500+ straight away to insurance policy.
Vehicle was on the house driveway under street light with neighbourhood having CCTV cameras.
I believe they changed the way insurance coverage to reflect police crime figures postcode mid 2010

Depending on age of Landy try LV insurance ask for a historic quote, not a main stream one. Mine is £150year for 21 year old V8 Disco 2,I am 68no claim does not come in to it for historic.that’s for 5k a year good luck.

Mine was cheaper by a pound this year. Bit daft really as it’s been in bits in the garage for a year.
Still it’s less than £140 F/C a year so no big worry. One day it’ll be on the road for a full 12 months and I’ll get my moneys worth

Been insured by Lancaster for 8 years now after Adrian bleedin Lax said my address was uninsurable.
