What have you guys done for insurance when rebuilding your vehicles. My insurance is due mid Feb but defender coming off road in to my attached garage for full rebuild tomorrow.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

I have been wondering the same, insurance policies for parked up vehicles I'm pretty sure won't cover the thousands of pounds of parts lying around waiting to be fitted.

I just kept my normal insurance going when I done my rebuild. I can’t see what difference it makes to be honest. They will do everything they can, to not pay out in a claim, so no issues.

This. The insurance Co's will always try to wiggle. But, for example, if your LR was stolen during the rebuild it would still be insured. If the engine was stolen it would be exactly the same as if the engine was in the truck. I'd like to see any insurance Co' try to wriggle out of an honest claim in front of a Judge...the policy is for the car which is the sum of its collective parts.

Only exception to this would be if there is a specific clause clearly stating the vehicle is not insured during a rebuild/refurbishment. However, all of my classic car policies have clearly stated the car is also fully insured during restoration.

You can get insurance for a vehicle in parts , I have all my classics with Heritage Insurance and they insure one of my classics
A Austin Healey which is in bits under restoration for at least 5 years , The only clause in the policy is that all the main components must be stored at the same address , All parts are covered from fire theft etc and it is only about £80 for 20k of cover

@Scooby90 , that's very similar to my policy

@neilp1 , it would be worth talking to your existing insurer + other specialist insurers ala Heritage, Adrian Best + A-Plan of Thatcham are very familiar with classic car off the road policies

Thanks guys.
I'm currently with Lancaster for the Defender but A plan for my kit car. I might give them a call in the morning.
