Can any one help. My current insurer has wacked my renewal up by 80% this year telling me its down to the thefts going on round UK. So I rang one advertised in LRM and was told they wouldnt insure my 96 110 cos it has 11 seats ! anyone recommend a good company ?

I just had the same - can't insure an 9 seater but can insure a 10. NFU were suprisingly helpful but just not competitive for my age. I spoke to them about the mods (raised intake and winch / winch bumper) and she knew what they were. Couldn't find them on the system so confirmed they didn't enhance performance (engine not vehicle) and said if they don't enhance performance then as far as they're concerned it's not a mod to worry about (if I'd have gone with them I'd have liked to have got that in writing though).

Ended up using Compare the Meerkat since it actually allowed you to declare "other mods", previously used Go-Compare but they don't have "Landy mods" on there so no use. Ended up getting a price (through Elephant which is run by the Admiral group) that was about 60% of any other quote.

Interestingly was with Admiral previously and found out (just in time) that they have a nasty habit of renewing automatically. I phoned them up to cancel the renewal and there was the usual questions - why aren't you renewing? Well a) your prices are extortionate on the renewal and b) you won't insure the mods I'd like to put on the vehicle. "We do insure heavily modified cars sir, what mods would those be?" Told her and then "Oh I can't find those on the system, are you sure they're mods?", "Well you tell me!". Then just as I was about to hang-up she spotted that I'd queried this a while ago and in fact she was the one who had replied to my email saying that Admiral don't insure these modifications!
