Would using non standard 255/60/18 cause any problems with insurance cover ot the MOT examination??

This tyre isn't mentioned in the owners manual but there seems to be lots of people using them.

The book gives 255/55 R18 109H as an option fitment, I would assume that the rolling radius of the 60 would be slightly greater making your speedo inaccurate. Over here they would be more concerned about the 109H load rating of the tyre on such a weighty vehicle.

Best to tell insurance, if you tell them and they say its ok they cant argue if there is a problem later, if you dont tell them they will use any back door to avoid paying out.

Checked with "http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.html" and changing from 255/55 18" to 255/60 18" will make a speedo reading of 70mph a genuine 73.4mph. Not a lot, but worth noting.

Thanks...just wanting to check that in the event of an accident would an insurance use the 60 profile as a get out with it being non standard...

I'm on the lookout for a mint set of hurricanes ( bit of peeling on mine) but most seem to have 60 profile on them. I'll check it out.
