Yeah i heard on the radio about this......... the only time ur going to get caught is if your in a accident.. and i dont plan on being in a accident anytime soon// luckily enough me and poppa dearest have the same name so on the log book and insurance all looks cosha... unless your looking into the details... i think once this policys up ill be getting my traders policy back so i can get a little run around!

no one plans on having an accident u muppet! and even if u did. should be fine just gota make sure ur careful wen on the phone to them etc. they wil try and catch u out. u just gota maintain its his car, he drives it more, u just use it occasionally.

I disagree. I am sure, given the quality of some people's driving on the roads, that there are plenty of people who seem to go out with full intensions of having an accident.

They are probably the uninsured ones who will be claiming personal injuries off your policy, because their friend Bob, who has no car and can't drive, was in the car behind them and saw everything.

I'm 17 looking to insure a defender 300tdi. insurers won't touch me. Know that i have just had a crash and yes I was to blame I'm fooked.Good luck is all I say.

18 years no claims 1850 i pay on a 200tdi defender

the no claims discount makes hell of a difference

I'm 20, been driving 3 years with one years no claims, cost me £1480 to insure my Disco, that's with Adrian Flux, fully comp. I'm pretty sure that Footman James class any vehicle older than 15 years old as classic, so if you can wangle a classic policy, should be cheaper.

Well mines a pickup and the funny thing is the insurance says it is a sports vehicle how did they get to that conclusion.

and that makes it a sports vehicle how? my mates got a 90 truck cab no issues with his insurance

if its that much of a money saver buy a van back;)

stuff young driver's I'm 43 and still having to deal with all their crap..

Footman James, after asking if I use the vehicle off road they did reply "I'm sorry we cant't cover you"

:frusty::frusty::frusty:

Adrian Flux: they would cover me but with an eye watering premium of £633

:violent::violent::violent::monitor_punch::monitor_punch::monitor_punch:

several other companies later and finally sick of explaining that, no, a snorkel is not a performance modication and wont make the car quicker, I finally worked round to Lancaster and a nice lass who understood things like winches and so on.:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:Cry::Cry:
but she still has to check whether having a steering guard is coverable...

i am 17 and just put my series 3 88" landy on the road nfu wanted about £2700 and adrian flux wouldn't touch me but the cheapest i found was £1750 on a price comparison site

When it come's to insuring cars I've found that not letting them know everything is the best way and just make sure you drive properly and don't force accidents upon yourself if you're raggin your motor in a field or ragging it around the rooads.

I'm 18 and have a '03 Defender 90 but with a 300 Tdi and a D ('87) registration so I get alot of questions when I try and insure mine, just let the insurer's tell you what your car is that's what I did, my insurance told me mine must be ex-mod so I just agreed ;-)

Still at £2400 a year fully comp it's ****ing expensive but it is my first car with no no-claims. Just you all need to stop being tight bastards and fork out for the things you want.

Before my Landy I bought a Saxo for a little run around and best quote was £2700 a year so shut up complaining and be thankful if you can get it under £2000

Insurance is **** for first driver's but it's needed and always rememeber unless you're a proper **** at driving, that will be the only time you pay that much for insurance.

I'm with Express Insurance by the way, I bought the Total Offroad Yearbook and there's a section with a big list of all 4x4 specialists. One day I just sat down and rang every one of them up until I got the best deal.

How do you have an 03 D90 with 300tdi and D reg? sounds a bit like some of these dependers that keep popping up on ebay :confused:

Nobody forces an accident upon themselves, otherwise it wouldn't be an accident, would it? Imo that is not a good idea. If you're involved in an accident, it's likely that an inspector will be sent out to inspect your car. The main thing they will look for is for "get out clauses". They will look for any reason possible to avoid paying out and if they find a modification which you did not declare, you're buggered. Not only that, if you happen to be responsible for the accident, and if there's another victim involved (other than yourself) this can land you in hot water.

It seems that the best way to go about insuring a 4x4 is to go with an insurance company which caters specifically for 4x4 vehicles. (Adrian Flux etc) Many of the well known insurance companies (Such as Direct Line, Norwich Union, Shelias' wheels) do not cater very well for 4x4 vehicles. Too bad I'm with Direct Line until the end of the year.
