Hmm, not very consistent is all I can say about insurance companies.
I rang Lancaster, who simply said they could not offer cover for such a highly modified vehicle at any price! They said maybe they could try some more options, but only if we agreed not to use the motor for commuting to and from work and accepted other restrictions, and then only an outside chance! KAK
I then rang the NFU, with whom we already have an L200 insured for commercial use, they wouldn't touch it either! KAK
Sureterm quoted £347, unfortunately with enough restrictions including mileage to stop you using it and a huge excess to boot, utter rubbish, everything you would want in such a policy stripped out! Is anyone really insured with such poor providers? KAK
Strikes me the insurers have no idea and just throw the paperwork up in the air, and everything depends on which way it lands. Or is it that there are not really many seriously modified Landys, just primarily some with cosmetic mods perhaps, so they get used to that, then real mod's just confuse them?
Thankfully I got quotes back from Adrian Flux & A-Plan, both of whom the extended family use for a number of Jap imports. Adrian Flux came in first at £265, and that's with a huge number of extras including like for like & unlimited mileage, you can also add more options like breakdown etc if required. We opted for the whole shooting match including full breakdown (inc' Homestart) & recovery, Key cover, (lost / stolen) extended legal 7 personal cover, claims protection, euro cover, time unlimited courtesy car, and more, total £331.
So, my experiences over the last few days indicate that if you have a seriously modded Landy get yourself down to Adrian Flux. We have used them for several years, but of course we didn't know until we asked that they had a special Landy plan and someone who knows about the vehicles. I used their Thatcham office and spoke to Alec, should have known as they have specialist departments & staff for a number of odd vehicle types.
