Hi,

I've phoned around Footman James, Adrian Flux, NFU, etc.
None of them still do there "Young classic drivers policy" anymore. And some wont even touch me.

I've looked on comparison sites and the cheapest I've found so far for me on my standard 88" 1961 petrol is £2700.

How come I hear of people my age insuring them for around £700-£1000?

:(

Never heard of a young driver insuring a landy at that price.

Try Prosure in Kent, worth a shot, but your age is against you.

i was charged £2700 on my 1.2 fiat punto when i was 17, so £2700 on a 2.25ltr engine? feel free to correct me if im wrong on engine size.

when i was 17 i was paying just over £800 on my lightweight, with footman james try to get a limited milage policy and join a landrover club thats what i did. and good luck !

I am 18, my td5 defender 90 is registered to my dad, this means that it can be on his nfu insurance policy but i am still insured as a main driver. worth a try !!

engine size has very little to do with it...

It comes down to accident statistics

Not forgetting the 2.25 petrol in a landy has as much power as my desktop fan ;)

Post Code plays strongly in it as well on price comparison websites.

Postcode plays a massive factor. When I was 17 I brought a cosworth and had no trouble insuring it where i live in the middle of the country. I moved down to Hertfordshire for University and my insurance more than trippled when i got a quote for a similiar car at my Hertfordshire postcode.

You could try moving :)

Your problem isn't just postcode, engine size age etc it's bloody computers! All the insurance company does is pump all the info into the infernal machine and it weighs up all the statistics and hey presto they wont insure you! Accident stats for 17yr olds are very bad, but 17yr olds in Land Rovers! Prob none! As someone else said join a club, go for a limited mileage policy and try to find an insurance company who use the human approach ie they're willing to talk to you and understand the risk. Be very careful of comparison sites, I got what I thought was a great qoute for my '75 88" petrol (just £78 fully comp, but then I am a lot older than you) but when they found out the Landy was my only vehicle they nearly tripled the qoute!

But whatever you do don't give up, it's great to see a youngster driving one of the greatest vehicles ever made!!

Good Luck

it used to be that the vehicles' insurance group was set when the car was new and never revised. Hence, a 1964 mini cooper S still has a relatively high insurance group despite struggling to beat many shopping trolleys to 60.

Your old landy will have had its group set before 1961, when a landy will have been seen as 'powerful'.

Has a 2.25 land rover ever been seen as powerful?

77hp is less than a kia picanto
