Hi Guys,
Swopped out my binnacle for a Raptor one - savage job, Have had some drama with the earth's since I reinstalled. Hitting a brick wall though getting the right hand fitting of the dash warning lights going. Trailer, indicator etc is ok, but the glow/choke light seems to be no longer working. Replaced instrument lights for leds and all works.

Checked fuses, double checked battery earth (i had disconnected battery while working on it).
I've added back the earths on the warning indicator which I had missed - is there anything related to the bus attachment on the right side of the warning lights?

1985 defender 110 ex mod.

Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers
A

Just reading some other threads - below is the light specifically i am referring to.

To preheat the engine (glow plugs) then turn the ignition key to the final stage before the starter and give it another half turn without turning the starter. An yellow light should come on (that looks like a choke light just to confuse matters) which is the preheater. Leave this for about 15 seconds from cold before twisting it all the way to start.

I don't know how the wiring goes on that light but I would check you haven't dislodged a wire off the back of the ignition switch.
Have you verified that the bulb is receiving voltage with the key in the pre heat position?

If it's an NA it might not have the glowplug starter relay could either just be off ignition or not wired up. I've been doing a rebuild and my loom was completely missing the glowplug circuit which confused me when like you I tried to fit warning lights and 300tdi engine with a chopped td5 loom. Good fun
See if you can find he relay, the relay has a power in from batt power out to plugs power in from ignition a neutral and a small yellow/black like 1mm or .5 that goes from relay to the warning light panel. Relay should do like 15-20 secs if there. If it is there check connections. Some of the old diesel landy engines start really well without plugs even wired in so If relay not working you wouldn't necessarily know

1985 is NAD and no relay or timer for the glows. All off the switch which is why I suggested a loose wire on the back of it.
It's easy to dislodge stuff when pulling the binnicle out and quite difficult to see if all is well connection wise on the ignition switch from memory.

Could have diff engine, I know the series ones were defo off crank but thought later defenders could be either cos started using same looms? Mod is who knows anyway lol

Cheers lads, cleaning the card at the back now to make sure all ok there, and gonna check the pre heat feed from starter motor in the morning.
Failing that it's multimeter time!

Not yet but the new card arrived today so it's gonna be an interesting one, everything else seems to be working!!
