Hi all,
Can anybody tell me if renewing the speedo instrument cluster bulbs is a simple job? I need to change the bulbs behind the temperature gauge. I'm wondering is there sufficient length on the looms behind the cluster to withdraw it, or am I looking at a pig of a job for the sake if a few bulbs. Rangie is 1998,2.5 DSE.

Drop cover below steering wheel in footwell. Two screws under that for binnacle. Two more in roof of binnacle. Pull steering wheel out and down. Remove binnacle unplugging fuel flap release switch. Four screws two top two bottom of instrument cluster, you don't need to take them right out, leave them in cluster. Unplug yellow SRS plug, unplug cluster supply. Remove cluster, remove bulbs holders as needed pull out bulbs push new in. 12 Volt 1.2 amps. Reassemble.

Good guide on rangerovers.net if you need it - I used it the other day when I changed my O rings and fitted some silver bezels.

I disconnected the battery before I did all this, not sure if you technically need to, but better to be safe than sorry.

Technically battery should be disconnected before unplugging SRS cable. As long as ignition is NOT switched on at ANY stage before re-connection all should be good.

I took out my cluster without disconnecting the battery, made sure the ignition was never touched though:)

If ignition is switched on with SRS or a bag unplugged you may get a logged fault in SRS ECU. That would need to be cleared. Most important thing is NOT to have ignition on when you unplug or plug in. You may get a face full of airbag.

supplementary question. is there supposed to be a bulb in the fuel flap release switch? looks like there should be but mine never lights up. thanks
