Hello everyone, does anybody know where i can get a Workshop Manual for my landrover? Its a 1970 series 2a 109 with a 2.6 engine. Apologies for not knowing much, we've all got to start somewhere!
Also, got a heavy 'clunking' noise coming from the front passenger side and the drivers side wheel wobbles like mad when it hits a bump or a pothole in the road. Somebody HELP!!!! :(:confused:
 
google free series 2 workshop maual download,got a copy of an original.sounds like you have lost a shock rubber on the pasenger side and a seriously worn tierod end on the drivers,easy to fix if they are the culprits
 
Thanks mate, i'll take a look at that in the morning. I was thinking the worst and thought it might be the swivels knackered.

Yes its the 6 pot version, after 'careful' inspection i've found one or two ball joints to be worn so i've opted to replace all 6, and replace the shocks aswell, hoping that'll cure the bugger!
 
Theres a possibilty that summats wrong with yer swivels or uj's on the front axle, your right looking at the balljoints first though, thats a more likely issue.
Double check the bellcranks on the steering relay for tightness and check the steering box to see if you need to adjust the play too.
 
It's easy to see if a ball joint is worn. Just get somebody to jiggle the steering wheel from side to side while you watch each joint. If it's heavy clunking noises you're getting then it's probably more than a ball joint. Jack the wheel off the ground, face the wheel, grab the upper and lower parts of the tyre and alternately push and pull the top of the tyre, doing the opposite to the bottom of the tyre. If you can feel it clunking a lot then get somebody to rock the wheel while you identify where the play is. It will likely be either between the brake drum and the backplate or between the swivel housing ball and the hub carrier. The former will mean that the wheelbearings need adjusting or replacing and the later will mean the swivel pin bearings will need replacing. Have a look at the U-bolts and nuts too, and the suspension bushes.
 
All balljoints replaced now, noticed tiny amount of play in the steering box but nothing that concerns me, next in the firing line are the swivel pins to hopefully stop the clunk. But, the wobbly wheel is no more! Thanks all....
