I know we’ve taken the **** a bit tonight but quite honestly some of your replies are really quite rude, mostly directed at jamesmartin for some reason. Telling people to “get out more” and “wake up” isn’t really very helpful, it just makes you look like a dick.

Clean “new” oil is clean oil, if you feel the need to further filter it to satisfy your OCD then fine but unless you’re doing it in a sterile environment and with some fairly sophisticated filtering equipment it’s probably a total waste of time and may even contaminate otherwise clean oil.

I do apologise for those comments if it offends you only. but james martin called me out so I replied... it appears that I may of questioned his knowledge in another post has upset him .

my typing is **** it sounds better in person that it does in text ....i am more of a hands on person.. I rebuild engines / turbos/ transmissions on a daily basis as well as repairs and part change outs or parts rebuild and servicing
some of the equipment I work on actually cost more than our homes ..so if they recommend not to prefill filters you listen to this is why most fuel injection systems have a priming sequence of some type

even after a full engine rebuild many want to pump oil into a oil gallery remember this is unfiltered oil ..but its a good test to make sure oil is getting up to other things ..normally I just crank engine over only as every bearing should be lubed up in the rebuild try and take full advantage of the filters in the system

the turbo is one of the first things to fail considering the turbo can spin up to many thousands of RPM ..this is why its best just to disconnect fuel injection system and crank over engine.. the turbo impellor will only turn a small amount compared to if there was fuel being burnt hence no engine load

I do see your self also trying to be clever with OCD comments and (namecalling )

When you say you filter the new oil before putting it in the engine how do you do this?

I assumed you do some sort of filtering before you use the oil ?
nah mate but if you have a look how a filter works the entry isn't the centre ..so regardless how new the oil its still classed as unfiltered oil that is about to enter vital parts
I am talking about microns and not dirt that would see by the human eye
even the oil filter its self only takes filtration down to a curtain micron ..the oil spinner doesn't come into affect unless up to oil operation temps

ps how dead set sure and how do you trust oil manufactures .it could be recycled oil in a bottle with a fancy label on the side

If I wear a tin foil hat in a lead lined garage whilst I do my oil and filters change do you think that would help?

I always fill the fuel filter up from the can before hand, otherwise that's a hell of a lot of priming to do!

I think fresh oil out of a can is obviously fine, its a fender for f_cks sake

oh yeah I forgot fuel injectors don't run very fine tolerances
try it some time you will be surprised how quick the HIGH PRESSURE fuel pump can deliver

I will just leave this hear

Every vehicle I've ever had I've always filled fuel filter before fitting, on older vehicles it can be a pain in the arse to purge them, and I've always done I on my defender and never had any probs. I never fill the oil filter up because its a pain in the arse to get to on the td5, it being full of oil probably wouldn't help.

I will try it next time I do the fuel filter though, and as you say, see how long it takes

I let mine cycle through about 3 or 4 full purge cycles just to be safe . one purge cycle probally fills the fuel filter ..I use the other purge cycles to ensure there is no air in the system due to the return fuel you will notice the pump sound change in tone .....while its purging I do other things so no time lost... like pouring in the oil into the engine or clean out air filter make a coffee

That's the other thing I thought, when the pump is filling the filter, and then as you say running the purge cycle a few more times, isn't this quite a strain on the pump? Or is it under normal load I.e exactly the same load as when driving? I just hate the sound of it churning away, another reason why I filled the filter up first
