Out came the welder and I ended up with this ...

Back on the bonnet and with the bonnet shut I miss the intercooler by just the right amount. The bonnet still 'pops' open too so all is well.

Hi Lee
It's been good, no issues or probs, the car runs as sweet as although since fitting the intercooler it's also had a VVT turbo and the FiP rebuilt by Diesel Bob.
The VVT turbo made a difference but the main increase came from the FiP rebuild.
As a packege it has really improved the drive, increased the mpg and smoothed out everything, more low down power, more urge etc etc.

I had an issue with my winch recently which enabled me to have a good look around with the front panel off.
Everything still looks perfect, almost as new in the shelterd areas.

If you are not planning on upgrading the turbo then Alisports, standard width, large capacity intercooler would be an easier fit and provide a felt increase in performance.
I'm not sure that the full width would provide a cost effective upgrade without the VVT and a larger exhaust - which is my next move.

Excuse my ignorance, but if you don’t ask you don’t learn, why doesn’t the inter cooler sat in front of the rad affect engine cooling. Thanks.
Many moons ago I fitted a larger i/c to a td5 disco, and shortly afterwards I heard the viscous fan cut in after a long hill, something I had not heard ever before, and I had owned the car for at least 2 plus years by then.

Nearly every hgv on the road will have the i/c in front of the cooling rad, and if it has a/c that will be in front of the i/c, so three rads in total.

Morning mate.

I will also be fitting a VVT or VNT turbo to but at a later date but intercooler first. Interesting what you say about the FIP. I also plan that to soon. How many miles on the FIP and what VVT did you go for?

Cheers Landy-Lee

Not 100% sure of the original milage on the pump as the car was built up (originaly) by the Butchers @ Hereford 4x4.
At a guess i'd say around 120K maybe more.
I'd also messed about with it changing the star washer and fitting a boost-pin etc.
That did give me more get-up-and-go but it was kerbstone height rather than a garden wall.

I got the TurboTechnics (Alisport) VNT/VVT.

Nice!

Looks like i am on a similar tuning path as yourself.

I am on the back order list for the forby inlet.

Did you monitor you EGT's as you have been tuning? i hear that the intercooler really lowers it.

I haven't looked at the EGT yet ... haven't found a gauge and sender at the right price.
Everything is as per the manufacture, so feel comfortable that it's not too high.

Just going for the exhaust, probably a Griffin (if they ever answer their phone ...)
