If you thought installing wing chequer plates using a nut and bolt rather than a pop rivet was a little tricky, then installing the bonnet plate could make you kick a puppy.
Just finished mine and thought I'd share a method I devised for securing (and not loosing) the chequer plate bolts.
When you drill the three holes through the front of the bonnet you'll find that there's no place to attach the nut underneath (or a wrench to the nut for that matter) because there's a frikking metal brace in the way. So:
Nothing worse than loosing your nuts, hey.

When you drill the three holes through the front of the bonnet you'll find that there's no place to attach the nut underneath (or a wrench to the nut for that matter) because there's a frikking metal brace in the way. So:
- Drill the bolt size hole from the top of the bonnet as you normally would.
- Find the centre line on the underside of the bonnet and drill a pilot hole upwards.
- Through the underside pilot hole, drill a hole large enough to fit a 10-12mm socket through.
- Superglue the washer to the underside of the nut.
- Fix some cotton thread around the nut and washer and leave plenty of line. This is just in case the nut and washer decide to get lost in the brace cavity.
- Place nut into socket (washer will prevent nut falling all the way into the socket).
- Fix and tighten.
Nothing worse than loosing your nuts, hey.
