Cheers OP. Standard co-op ins wanted over 2k, the young driver ins won't insure because of mods, didn't want to know what the mods are.:(

Co-op just emailed a quote !! £2124, thats the cheapest by almost 500 quid. I'll now leave it in his hands i think.

The alternative is i MOT it and sell it or keep it myself:)

Bell insured me fully comp on my 90 for £600 with £100 excess. I'm 21 with 3 years NCB on daily drive.

It's all about where you are and how often you drive, that's all that really matters. If you're on the road more, you're more of a risk.

Be careful of big insurance companies trying to stiff you with a fronting policy, if you want a reasonable price he's going to have to be main driver.

Bell have just quoted a fraction under £2600, that NCB of yours must make a huge difference plus we're in manchester lol

what age is the vehicle in question ??

i know im going to get slatted for this but a flux done me a rather good deal on my 94 disco fully comp,ed for £165 BUT !! its on a classic insurance so limited to 5k a year and you dont get no-claims bonus,es but hey ho its my toy , and have another car to use my no-claims on

Thats a great deal Robin, the 90s a 1991, if i can get that sort of deal i might keep it myself !!! I'll ring em back now. Thanks:D

Checked with flux, £350, must be because its manchester.....

I know they get mixed reviews on here but flux insured me for under 500 quid in a lightly modified 300tdi 90 aged 23.

Elephant, Diamond & Bell are all part of the Admiral group. Get quotes on line and you can play them off against each other.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys, he's going with the co op quote (if its still valid when he does get his arse in gear):D:D And of course if he can afford to buy it off me!!

I'm 23 with Admiral also got zero NCB as I've been a named driver until I bought the landy. Was about £1k on a 1990 110 CSW 200tdi. None of the specialists would touch me as under 25 and no NCB. But next year they will!

That was on a multicar policy though so I think they give you about 20% off the normal price as you are insuring 2 cars with em.

Admiral declined at first when I said it had a non standard engine. They wanted the horse power figures for the original td and new 200tdi which I looked up. It was like 7 hp more out of the factory and they said no cos of that!! Spoke to the manager and said its probably got less hp than the original td engine now anyway and he approved it.

Ask if they will give a letter stating named driver and claim free years or mirror the discount onto your own policy.

Surely the insurance company you were a named driver with would be happy to have a claim free known quantity to provide a quote.

Had issues myself with the many specialists with being under 25.

Insured now with flux at £650 on my modified 200tdi 90, aged 21 so there is hope.

Insured with Aviva through Annandale brokers at 1750 which should drop by about 1k in three months time. Aviva direct wanted well over 5k.

Well after all that he's bought a soddin Clio!!!! 190 quid a month ins, but at least he's paid cash for the car which he couldn't do with the 90.

Thanks for all the help and advice it is appreciated:):)

I'll MOT it after xmas and sell it :(
