So I've got a 1988 Landrover 90 with Michelin zxl militarily tyres on. My innertubes keep splitting or breaking around the valve. Im only driving on road and have had this happen three times in the last two months)

Any ideas as to why?

Thanks,
C

Make sure you are fitting a decent quality tube, I've found the cheap ones were quite thin around the valve in the past. Otherwise as above - rust inside the rim, especially if your wheels are original.

as above do tubes fit nicely through wheel rim is there agap if there is you can get top hats to take up gap

This one, unless they are the proper agricultural tubes with the wider valve to fully fit the hole in the rim you need the insert to prevent them moving.

There are still a few bargains around if you do a bit of looking. I got 4 modern steel defender wheels and tyres for £50.

That is a bargain. I paid £450 but that was for brand new ones.

I still have the original tyres on the back three years later. I’d have the fronts but the tracking was that far out it ate them.

They are slightly bigger than the original series but that helps a bit with top speed. Other than that with a coat of sandstone they look very original. Right down to the rusty circles round the nuts :D

Most of the defenders had them unless the buyer opted for alloys and it seemed that the poncy pig owners couldn’t wait to upgrade so there are a lot of them around. It’s just waiting for the right one.
