hi,im new to owning a land rover, ive got a 1990 3.5 v8,and a mechanic has told me the inner wing will need welding for the mot, does any one have some sort of price to expect,so i dont get ripped off, many thanks gavin.
only prob with inner wings is the ruling "within xxxxmm of the braking system" - I think the inner wing root is close enough to the servo to be within the prescribed distance. (not sure wot it is tho).
yes I know what you mean try telling him his job and you usually end up with a bigger failure list..a gentle mention that it is borderline may sound better.
I'm one of those 'orrible people called an MOT tester, the wing will pass as long as the excess corrosion ie the hole is more than 30 cm from a mounting point for a body/seatbelt/suspension/brake component. also the corrosion assesment tool ie the little toffee hammer we use, is only to be used to determine how bad the corrosion is. all other cases finger and thumb pressure is method of inspection. if the tester uses the hammer to check for initial corrosion then it's very harsh and you have grounds for appeal! alot of testing stations use the hammer wrongly. if the hole is inside a prescribed area then a prperly welded patch (seam welded on all sides) is an adequit repair! hope this helps
