So why did the bugger fall off? I mean, it's still there but it wobbles all over the shop and is noisy and this means my turbo won't be doing much.
It looks as though the gasket is mashed as well. Exhaust manifold to come off it would seem.

Any advice?

Stripped the threads in the cylinder head perhaps? I've had issues before with alloy cylinder heads stripping threads (VW rather than Rover) and helicoiling is a good way to resolve the issue.

oh I never thought of that, I'm not fixing it today - but like I said I never touched it so I haven't overtightened them?
