Going to be replacing my inlet manifold gasket next weekend if the weather is kind. I'm just doing some homework and RAVE states...

24. Apply a thin bead of LoctiteSuperflex(black) sealant to 4 notches between cylinder head and block.

25. Position new gasket seals. Ensure ends engage correctly in notches.

Are these notches obvious? Does anyone have a picture of them?

I'm trying to get prepared, and this is the one bit I can't work out. Where are they?

Hi,
Did my valley gasket just last week, Google cannibalv8.com, they do a good write up on the valley gasket installation with pictures. Tackled the front crank oil seal to, I remember you saying yours was leaking too, really an easy job, hardest part was removing old seal.
Please be carefull when replacing valley gasket because they are REALLY sharp, I slice my finger quite badly just sliding it into place.
Good luck.
Paul.

Oh, forgot to add when replacing end seals purchase good quality, I went for original Land Rover, have heard others do not fit so well.

Thanks for that PPP38vouge, I'll check out the link.

When you say "end seals" do you mean the one seal at the front. Part 17 below or have I forgotten to order something?

I've gone for original LR too. It was only a fiver I think. And OEM for the gasket. A lot f people say the Payern metal one is the best, but I couldn't find anywhere in the country that stocks them….?

I've got a whole new timing cover to go on too, so the front will be be new. And oil cooler pipes, O rings, gaskets the lot. If this doesn't stop it loosing coolant and oil, I'm burning it!

I see there is another seal at the back! Bugger. Does anyone have the part number, I can't see it on MICROCAT.

Front and back seals are the same, you just need to order another one, good idea on OEM they fit so much better.

Rimmerbros haven't shipped yet, hopefully I can add another first thing tomorrow morning! Thanks again.

PPP38, did you follow the canibalv8 method of putting sealant around the front and back coolant ports on the inlet manifold.

I was already contemplating this TBH, but wasn't sure if it would cause more problems than it would solve. I have a brand new tube of Loctite Superflex waiting here, so I'll have more than enough!

Hi, yes did follow the instructions from the website, I used blue hylomar around the coolant ports as suggested by wammers. Make sure your end gaskets are at room temperature, they slide over the little ridge better.
