Good afternoon.everyone.Could some one advise me as to why I am getting black/blue diesel smelling smoke all the time from my series 3 with a 200 di engine fitted.this is a rebuild restoration after having new rings /main bearings /big ends and top end refurb , before I get injectors or pump refurbed. how can I adjust injector pump/ and what to adjust/ to try to stop smoke, I have just started this up for the first time but the landy is not yet road worthy or complete. This project is being done with information I got from the Glencoyne 200 DI convertion engineering internet site. Thanks Steve
 
I’ve just done the same swap but got a misfire on mine after swapping diesel filter
are you sure it’s not just burning off the engine oil you lubed the rings with on rebuild
There is a fuelling screw I’ve read it’s normally preset and protected from fiddling but it can be adjusted but just a 1/8 of. A turn at a time

Did you get the cylinders honed with the new rings

I've done this conversion too and I had the same symptoms which were caused by slightly retarded pump timing. This happened because with the engine fitted in a series the crossmember under the flywheel blocks access for the TDC tool, so I had to set it up by eye as best I could. It ran fine but very smelly diesel fumes. A very slight advance through the inspection cover on the timing case fixed it right up.
 
Thanks for the replies steve2286w I did hone the cylinders,and Extreedoc I managed to make a small pin and fitting to fit flywheel for timing, what a pain but I will try what you said,. what and how did you do it and by how much to be sure.I wont do any damage thanks Steve

You will only have to move it by a tiny amount. If you put some paint around the washers on the pump pulley, when you move it you will be able to see by how much; 1 - 1.5mm is plenty. You might notice slightly more mechanical noise when you advance it but it is unnaturally quiet if too retarded. If the exhaust smoke makes your eyes water it is most likely to be retarded.
 
On mine I used the original banjo bolt and washers to plug it

Steve its supposed to be left with a vent to the atmosphere...otherwise you will prob get odd results.
I just cut the pipe on mine leaving around 6 inchs....pointed down toward the ground....nothing inside to get dirty.
Or you can fit a filter of some sort...but it should not be plugged.

That’s news to me, I am actually having problems, ive got a misfire sounds like it’s running on 3 , reduced top speed about 45, smoke, it all seemed to change when I put a new diesel filter on , thought it was air in fuel hence the clear pipe, new lift pump to fit, but old one still hand pumps well, cleaned two injectors, going to swap them over this weekend , will check tappets again and then engine pressure test , but I’ll whip,that bolt out first and see what happens fingers crossed
 
Heard of lots having trouble with it...you screw a bolt in...if the bolt is snug it will act as a piston and put pressure on the diaphragm...which boost the fuel supply which is what is does as the turbo send extra pressure to it....req more fuel.

Think Richard Glencoyne mentions it on his website.
