Hello everyone...

I'm looking at buying an 05 Freelander and wanting to spend around £5000
I have seen what look to be pretty good buys with around 60-80 thousand on the clock... But are these models reliable.. I know that history can play a big part but is the Freelander a reliable vehicle in general as I have heard horror story's even from new models..

Please help as I do prefer the defender 200tdi station wagon but here also I come across another mine field with the LEZ problem living in London..

HELP!

Regards
Steve:confused:

Generally diesels are more reliable than petrol's. Later models are more reliable as they have less miles and they worked out how to build them in later years. A Freelanders are in a totally different league to tratters. Ones comfortable the other isn't.

You'll need a proper 4x4 like a unimog then.

Nah hardtop 90... Ive seen some with 260k on the clock so they must go on forever I've never had a car or a van always bikes so this will be my first!:5bcheers2:

I think you'll find that a lot of cars are only as reliable as their owners. Generally, the ones that get on past a quarter of a million miles have been regularly serviced, lots of preventative maintenance and just generally maintained well.
Must this, and should that are just speculative, should never presume when buying a car, especially when buying a Land Rover!

Oh and the one with 260k on will have been welded up god knows how many times and will be on at least its second chassis

Yer in for a shock then. Tratters rattle like fek and that's just on tick over. At high speed (30+ mph in trattering terms) you won't be able to hear the radio or passengers. Top speed is never achieved. A bit different to yer bike. Tratter top speed is regulated by yer affection for yer major internal organs. Yer may want to keep wearing yer leathers just in case yer ribs rattle loose.

It's true tratters do continue for many years but we're talking triggers broom ere. They suffer from rust worm so look out for that. Many require a replacement chassis during the owners mid life crisis. If yer catch it sooner rather than later yer can patch it with some roses tin and cover it in waxoyle so the mot man can't see it.

You may at first think the roofs leaking too. It's true they do, but they also suffer from condensation. Pulling away first thing in the morning will give yer a dose of cold water down yer back. The wind chill factor from the none existent door seals just makes it worse. Being a biker this may not put you oft. Don't expect much from the heater anorl. When yer hot in the summer yer can open the front vents under the windscreen (not the newer models) for cooling. But don't do it whilst moving or yer'll get flies in yer face. Home from home some might say.

Tratters lack security so make sure yer get some. They're easily stolen so it's to yer advantage to protect it. Most tratterers have a guard pig. But they tend to let them in the house instead of being on guard as it's looked on more as a family pet. :tea:

All those are positives innit.

There are plenty of 150K Freelanders about despite their unreliable reputation.
I loved ALL my Land Rover's from Series, 90/110 and Disco's. However, I've owned Freelanders now for 7 years. Sold my 200Tdi 90 after owning my Freelander V6 for 6 months and not using it. I look back with fondness on all the Land Rovers I have owned over the years starting with a 1969 IIA Lightweight, but I can honestly say I don't think I'd ever own a "real" Land Rover again, well not as my daily driver anyway.
Good luck with you'r choice. Enjoy it.

Well I am now swaying towards a Freelander.. HAHA I can stretch my money to 6000 and get a 06 2.0td4 with 50 60k on the clock Not a bad buy I think... Plus from checking buyer reviews the 06 seems to have less faults popping up and the reviews get better...
