I recently bought a range rover Westminster 03 plate with lpg.

I keep getting a warning info message about lamp faults but when I check them all lamps are working. Can the fault message be reset?

Also when I put on the hand brake the red warning light does not light up on the dash, it does light up when u start the car up.

Handbrake warning is no doubt the handbrake lever switch on the base of the handbrake lever...

As for the Warning Messages....does your have retrofitted LED lamps in place of the standard filament lamps....

If you have, and they are not the CANbus type, then they will trigger warning messages....if they are standard filament lamps, and yet you still get messages, first thing to check is for moisture in the rear left hand corner of the boot space (where the Sat Nav unit is) the L322 is prone to water leaks in there which can cause electrical niggles....next is to check the lighting control module which is located behind the A pillar cover on the drivers side or under the dash side panel on the driver side, i forget which...!!

Put you location in your profile, someone local may be available to plug it into diagnostic gear for you and check any stored fault codes...but with Lamp warnings, they are usually erased as soon as the bulb is replaced.

Check for Water leaks But cannot find any. I still have the standard fit lightbulbs I am still getting the warning messages popping up

Check the relevant bulb holders and multiplugs for corrosion....

The LCM detects for a blown lamp by measuring the resistance value of the lamp, if there is corrosion it may change the resistance value and confuse the LCM.

Rear tail lights, rear fog light and number plate lights. The other thing that has been happening is the rear indicators stop working intermitantly. I took the light clusters out and cleaned the contacts on the bulbs ( slight build up of crap)this seemed to fix the fault but it started again this evening.

Could be a corroded earth.....have to check RAVE and see if they share the same earth point.

I know you said you checked for moisture in the rear left corner and found known, there may still be evidence like a corroded earth point....

Possible LCM issue, but I would assume if the dicky lamps share the same earth point as is most possible considering the issue only affects the rear lamps, I would check that first.... Find the schematics in RAVE and see where the earths are!!!

LCM = Light control module

does what it says, controls the outputs to the lights and checks the lamps to see if they have failed or not.

rave = have a search !

handy online workshop manual for landrover !

Rover
Automotive
Vehicle
Encyclopaedia

At least that's what I have always known it as....

As hippo says a search will throw up a linky to it....

I took a couple of pictures of the wiring in the back left corner, as there are a couple of cables that are not connected, two of them look like thin coax cable both having female connectors on the end of the cable. The other has multiple cable connected into a connector that looks similar to a scart connector ( maybe some sort of diagnostic connection ???)

How do I up load pics?

it was either 2005/2006 I believe...

Looking at those pics, it is definatly from a module you don't have installed...am I leaning on the embedded phone kit.

Looking at the schematics:

  • RH Tail Lamp
  • Number Plate Lamps
  • RH Brake Lamp
  • High Level Brake Lamps
  • Tailgate Switch
Earthed through C0555

  • LH Tail Lamp
  • LH Brake Lamp
  • Reverse Lamps
Earthed through C0707

Location of each earth point....as attached....

As C0707 is in the Spare Wheel Well....I would look at that carefully, as it is known for the wheel well to get water/moisture in there too....
